Reviews - 5/15/2013

This week saw the comic book gods bestow 4 new issues upon me, taking me from the recent past of the Marvel Universe to its far future. Brian Micheal Bendis' final word on the Avengers inches further to a conclusion as Age of Ultron shows us what an age without Hank Pym looks like, Tony Stark's father stars in Stark's 11 in Iron Man, Sam Alexander does some Nova-y stuff in Nova, Wolverine puts on his best Henry McCoy face while trying to get into some time travel shenanigans in Wolverine and the X-Men, . Hit the jump to see my thoughts on these issues beyond one sentence summaries.

Batman: The Animated Series Episode Review - The Cat and the Claw, Part 1

Today, Batman on an Elephant is pleased to introduce you to Monday Reviews. Whereas Wednesday's post will remain dedicated to the week's new releases, and Friday will continue to dig into the past of Marvel
Comics, Monday offers an opportunity to review comic related media, be they films, video games, tv shows, or whatever other kind of media comic books characters have permeated.

This week kicks off the first in whats planned to be a long running series, a retrospective of the many different series that made up the DC Animated Universe. These are series that watched sporadically as a child, primarily on VHS and DVD, but have always heard great things about, including that they can be enjoyed by adults just as much as kids. I intend to put that supposition to the test, starting with Batman and working my way through to Justice League, watching the episodes through in the order of their release. Hit the jump to discover my thoughts on the first ever released episode of what would become the DCAU, The Cat and the Claw.

Retro Reviews - 05/10/2013

Welcome to the first installment of a new weekly article here on Batman on an Elephant! I've been subscribing to Marvel's Unlimited service for a little bit under a year now, and yet in that time I've been focused on working through stories published after the year 2000. This article will seek to rectify that, as I dig deep into the classic Marvel stories of the 1960s; are the comics that built the House of Ideas truly worthy of the moniker "classics"? Are they just kid stuff, or can adults enjoy them too? Are the sensibilities too out of date for the modern reader? Just how many cigars did Jack Kirby actually smoke while working at Marvel? Was there ever a time when the Avengers spent their time fighting villains instead of each other? All these questions and more will be answered, dear reader, right here every Friday!

This week saw me digging into Marvel's hottest property right now - none other than the Mighty Avengers themselves! And who better to accompany the world's mightiest heroes other than the Golden Avenger, now staring in his third big summer blockbuster? To accompany my foray into the history of the World's Mightiest Heroes, I also read the first two Iron Many Stories in Tales of Suspense, going from the secret origin of Tony Stark to his final adventure in the bulky gold armor.

Batman on an Elephant returns after a very long hiatus this week, and brings with it a quartet of reviews. The plot thickens in Wolverine, Deadpool features an ending that'll have Benjamin Franklin messing his knickers,  the Avengers have a detour into China, and The Avenging Spider-Man takes on the Secret Avengers - but has he bit off more than he can chew? How did I end up reading two comics featuring Nick Fury Jr. this week? Read on to find out the answer to this question and many, many more!

Reviews - 10/03/2012

A small week this time, with only 4 comics ending up being read, but what books they were. Avengers vs X-Men concludes, Brian Michael Bendis returns to one of the characters that launched him into comics stardom, a classic Spider-Man villain returns, and the heroes of Earth 2 try to band together to save their world from the rot. Read more to see what I thought about the books this week.

This was a somewhat calm week in comics, as DC's books set themselves up for bigger things, Mark Waid builds up to revelations in Daredevil, and Cullen Bunn sets up a new status quo for Venom. Read on for full reviews of everything I read this week.

My Pull List - Fall 2012 (Part 2)

After reviewing the state of the first half of my pull list in the last post, today we'll examine how the rest of the books I'm reading have been holding up recently.
